About the Artist: Sandy Salada

I am often asked how I got into basket weaving. I was lucky enough to take basket weaving in college. This usually comes as surprise to a lot of people I meet. In fact, I majored in Art  Education at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. where I enjoyed all types of  three dimensional arts and crafts. Loom weaving and of course basket weaving were among my favorites.

I have been a basket maker since 1995. All my baskets are handmade, one at a time, in my home studio. Many are my own designs, patterns by other teachers and some are reproductions of cultural or historic baskets. Until recently all of my baskets have been made using reed. In the summer of 2014, I acquired Nantucket and Shaker molds and have been busy learning the timeless art of mold weaving.

I enjoy teaching the art of basket weaving thru workshops, private classes and small groups in my home studio in Latham, NY. Private and small groups workshops can be arranged in your community.
